Pack 321 was founded in 2013 and focuses on providing a diverse set of activities that provide Scouts an opportunity to try new things, practice service to others, build self confidence, and reinforce ethical standards.
We believe Scouting develops self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that Scouts will benefit from throughout their lives. We make our Pack experiences family events and attempt to show flexibility and adaptability in the delivery of standardized program.
We have about 8-12 Scouts per Den at each age level and accept new Scouts at any time, both boys and girls from Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Pack 321 is sponsored by North Wake Youth Organization, www.nwyo.org.
"An organization dedicated to contributing to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national, and international communities." This organization has no religious affiliation and does not dictate any religious doctrine to the Pack.
What we do:
We meet at the Bedford Community Clubhouse in North Raleigh on Sundays at 4:00 pm during the school year. We work through the Cub Scout program for each Rank with a goal of having the Scouts achieve their rank each year. We have weekly Den meetings and one Pack Meeting per month.
We typically have family camping trips in the Fall and in the Spring as well as attend the Council Cuboree at Camp Durant. In addition we run the Space Derby in the Fall and the Pinewood Derby in the Winter which allows Scouts to express their creativity and their craftsmanship. We have 1-2 service projects per year (food drive, green space cleanup, etc.). We have Pack hikes and a Bike Rodeo in the Spring.
We have a relationship with Scout BSA Troop 321 which the older Cub Scouts get to interact with and learn from and consider move up to upon finishing Cub Scouts.
Fundraising:
For Fundraising, we hold a Pack yard sale and participate in holiday poinsettia sales. These are low-pressure options that allow Scouts to learn about money and participate in raising funds for their organization. Our Pack has opted out of Scout Popcorn sales.
Costs:
Our dues cover National and Council charter and program fees, Boys Life magazine, Awards (pins, patches, belt loops), the Derby kits, and adult leadership fees. It is $200 for the 2022-2023 year with payments due $100 in September 2022 and $100 in November 2022. Additional fees are ~$45 per family for camping trips which covers the site, meals, and supplies.
Members who are new to Scouting (not transferring from another unit) will have approximately $100 fees which include the National new member fee and the prorated 2022 registration fees.
Each scout must also have a uniform and handbook. Some ranks/age groups have different uniform requirements. Cost is approximately $30 for Lions and $60-70 for Tiger rank and above available from the Scout Shop As a general rule, we require the official uniform shirt and belt matched with the appropriate colored pants. Accessories like hats and socks are optional.
Our Plan for then coming year:
We will continue to plan to meet outside where we have fresh air and room to spread out. We have the option to meet inside the Bedford Clubhouse when needed.
